Whoo!! We can let the baby loose! The gate is up and our little man is now able to run around upstairs where ever he would like. It has been pretty tough trying to keep him just in the living room or kitchen but my talented husband built me a gate. Wanna see??
He started by taking a sheet of plywood and two sheets of wainscoting and cutting them down to fit the opening at the top of the stairs. He then glued a sheet of the wainscoting on to either side of the plywood and let it dry over night. Then he found a piece of trim to add some flair on the top and put it all together!
Now it was my turn to take over since my husband "does not do paint"! I used the same white shade of paint that matches all the trim and doors in the house and was able to do it in about 10 minutes.
I let it dry for a day and then wait for my husband to find a minute to install the hardware and screw it into place! For some reason he doesn't let me use his drills... hmm.. I might have to invest in my own.
It's basic black spring loaded hinges and latch. Cheap and looks great and will hold up to lots of baby wear!
Isn't it beautiful?! My husband did a great job since we both didn't want one of those store bought ugly gates that wouldn't match anything in our house. Now we have a solid gate that will stand up to a lot of wear and tear and will last many babies crawling around! Plus it blends in nice with the flow of our upstairs living area.

yay it look so good!! great job! now let the little one loose! (how long until he figures out how to open the latch?!)
